Connectomics

(Connectomics is the study of the brain's wiring, or connectivity patterns. Here at the Imaging Genetics Center, led by Paul Thompson at UCLA, we direct a range of projects studying brain connectivity at ultra-high magnetic fields - 7-Tesla, and using advanced diffusion imaging methods such as multi-shell HARDI). We also founded a worldwide consortium to discover which genes affect brain connectivity - ENIGMA-DTI. We also study how connectivity breaks down in diseases such as Alzheimer's, HIV/AIDS, autism, bipolar illness, and mild cognitive impairment; and how connections change as our brains develop in childhood.
